Analytical Models to Determine In-Plane Damage Initiation and Force Capacity of Masonry Walls with Openings

چکیده

Masonry panels consisting of piers and spandrels in buildings are vulnerable to in-plane actions caused by seismicity soil subsidence. Tectonic is a safety hazard for masonry structures, whereas low-magnitude induced can be detrimental their durability due the accumulation light damage. This particularly true case unreinforced masonry. Therefore, development models accurate prediction both damage initiation force capacity elements structures necessary. In this study, method was developed based on analytical modeling mode stand-alone piers; model then expanded through modular approach walls with asymmetric openings. The account all potential failure modes loaded walls. applicable types construction. openings applied as simple but also extended more complex modifications. Model results were compared numerous experimental cases exhibited very good accuracy.

in-plane behavior of confined masonry walls with and without opening

confined masonry buildings are used in rural and urban areas of iran. they performed almost satisfactoryduring past moderate earthquakes of iran. there is not a methodology in iranian seismic code (standard 2800-3rdedition) to estimate their capacities quantitatively. in line with removing this constraint, an attempt is made to studyin-plane behavior of two squared confined masonry walls with a...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

Limit states of modern unreinforced clay brick masonry walls subjected to in-plane loading

Recent research showed that the in-plane horizontal displacement capacity of unreinforced masonry (URM) walls depends on numerous factors that are not yet captured by current empirical drift capacity models; e.g., axial stress, shear span, geometry of the walls and the material used. In order to improve the performance-based assessment of URM wall buildings, future research should aim at develo...

Homogenization of Interlocking Masonry Walls

In a previous publication the authors proposed a continuous model for describing the mechanical behaviour of ‘Running Bond’ masonry walls. Here a different masonry structure is considered. This structure is ‘bi-atomic’ in the sense that its pattern consists in two kind of blocks with different. The homogenization by differential expansions technique is used for obtaining an equivalent Cosserat ...

Assessment of Masonry Infilled Reinforced-concrete Frames with Openings

Original scientific paper Reinforced-concrete (R/C) frames infilled with masonry wall, especially with the presence of an opening, are insufficiently explored structural elements. We have experimentally investigated influence of the opening’s type and position to the lateral response of reinforced-concrete frames with masonry infill. Correction factors, that take into account influence of the o...
